Hormone Optimization Therapy (HRT)

Hormone Optimization Therapy (HRT) is a type of hormone therapy that uses hormones that are structurally identical to the substances as they naturally occur in your body. It has been a favorite for both men and women going through the aging process and dealing with hormonal imbalance.

At Restore Medical Spa we work with the most cutting-edge hormone therapy available. Through our testing and screening process, we are able to provide a treatment plan that is catered to each patient.

What Are the Signs of a Hormonal Imbalance?

Hormonal imbalance is the result of too much or too little of a hormone in the bloodstream. As we know, hormones play an important role in our bodies. And even the smallest change can cause a ripple of side effects throughout the body.

Hormones regulate major processes and bodily functions, like:

  • Metabolism and appetite
  • Heart rate
  • Sleep cycles
  • Reproductive cycles and sexual function
  • General growth and development
  • Mood and stress levels

The more common causes of hormonal imbalance tend to produce the following symptoms in both men and women: Unexplained weight gain or weight loss

  • Poor sleep
  • Brittle or weak bones
  • Irritability and anxiety
  • Changes in sensitivity to cold and heat
  • Low libido
  • Very dry skin or skin rashes
  • Headaches
  • Long-term fatigue without reason
  • Unexplained or excessive sweating
  • Brain Fog or Inability to Concentrate
  • Erectile Dysfunction
What is Hormone Replacement?

What Are Hormones and Why Do They Matter?

Before diving into hormone replacement therapy, let’s cover the basics of hormones. For something that plays such a significant role in our bodies, many don’t know much about hormones!

Hormones are chemical messengers that travel through our blood and enter cells, tissues, and organs, telling them what to do and when to do it. From here, they can regulate everything from our emotions to reproduction to our general well-being. Essentially, hormones control and coordinate various activities throughout our bodies.

  • Hormones carry messages between cells and organs.
  • Hormone levels will naturally decline with age. However, when left untreated, you could have health issues.
  • Hormonal imbalance can impact both men and women of any age.

Furthermore, because hormonal imbalance can happen at any time and can cause serious health problems, regular check-ups and monitoring are essential to keep your body in balance.

Hormone Therapy Replacement for Women

What is Hormone Replacement?

Through routine monitoring and hormone level adjustment and proper diet and exercise our goal is to make you feel your very best so that you get your life back to the way it used to be.

Hormone therapy is the use of hormones to treat and restore hormone balance within the human body. Hormone imbalance can occur for a variety of reasons but is most commonly associated with aging. Symptoms of hormone imbalance that are effectively treated with hormone replacement therapy include hot flashes, night sweats, irritability, anxiety, weight gain, muscle loss, joint pain, poor sleep, and more.

At Restore Med Spa, our practitioners exclusively offer bioidentical hormone replacement therapy pellets integrated with functional medicine practices to help patients overcome the negative symptoms of hormone imbalance, as well as experience wellbeing and better health as they age. Every treatment plan is designed to suit the unique needs of each patient’s personal medical history, health status, and lifestyle preferences.

What is Hormone Replacement?

SYNTHETIC VS. BIOIDENTICAL HORMONE THERAPY

Many women experience the effects of hormone imbalance as they age, some as early as age 35. No one can accurately predict when, or if these symptoms will occur and the extent to which they may impact the quality of your life.

There are key signals that should alert you to the possibility that changes you sense in your body may be related to depleted hormone levels. If you notice loss of libido, unexpected weight gain, forgetfulness, unusual mood swings, changes in the look and feel of your hair and skin, or just general fatigue and a lack of energy or drive, you are probably experiencing the unpleasant side effects of perimenopause or menopause.

Perimenopause is characterized by irregular periods, is more common in your mid to late 40’s and can last for several years before periods stop completely during full menopause.

We believe the problem starts with a decline in the supply of natural hormones within the body. We solve the problem with hormones the body recognizes as being identical to the ones to which it is familiar.

Restoring hormonal balance has many positive health benefits as well as helping to control symptoms of menopause. Most doctors treat patients with synthetic drugs that have been known to have harsh and unpleasant side effects. In our clinics we perform thorough laboratory testing to specifically identify those hormones that need supplementation or proper regulation.

Bioidentical hormone replacement therapy (BHRT) uses bioidentical hormones derived from natural sources and compounded to be an exact structural match to the hormones inside the human body.

Bioidentical hormone replacement therapy (BHRT) uses bioidentical hormones derived from natural sources and compounded to be an exact structural match to the hormones inside the human body.

The natural ingredients combined with the molecular match allows bioidentical hormones to fit into human hormone receptors exactly as naturally-occurring hormones. This feature ensures the safety and efficacy of the treatment. With synthetic hormones, the molecular structure is merely similar, causing the body to struggle with recognition of the substance and, therefore, causing side effects and poor outcomes.

Hormone Replacement Therapy For Men

Hormone replacement therapy is a simple and effective solution to low testosterone in men. Research has shown that men who pursue hormone therapy for low testosterone enjoy symptom relief as well as additional benefits, such as reduced risk of heart attack or stroke.
Testosterone pellet therapy is the leading choice of hormone therapy for men because it is easy to use, avoids the dosing errors commonly associated with other forms of testosterone therapy, and delivers bioidentical testosterone in a safe and highly optimized form.
Men on testosterone therapy report increased energy level, better weight management and enhanced sexual desire and performance. Studies of testosterone therapy back these testimonials, as well as suggest that adequate testosterone levels are linked to better bone density with aging and improvements in spatial reasoning among Alzheimer’s patients

Andropause Or Low Testosterone In Men

On average, testosterone production decreases in men by approximately two percent each year, reaching peak declines around middle age.
A 70-year-old man has about one-third of the testosterone he had as a 20-something.
Men often dismiss the signs of andropause or low testosterone as aging or stress, which can lead to other conditions or even progress into disease. Low testosterone is correlated with heart attack, stroke, and high blood pressure. If you notice one or more symptoms such as muscle loss or trouble building muscle mass, irritability or depression, sexual dysfunction, trouble sleeping or lagging energy, it’s time to take action. Low testosterone can quickly become a bigger issue for aging men, making it essential for men to seek treatment when symptoms initially appear.

Do I Have Low Testosterone Levels?

Because testosterone affects so many organs and tissues, low levels are associated with many signs and symptoms throughout the body.

Symptoms you may experience but cannot be adequately measured include:

  • Irritability or unexplained negative mood
  • Loss of motivation
  • Anxiety or increased pessimism
  • Increased fatigue, low energy or diminished sense of well-being
  • Difficulty concentrating, lack of focus, forgetfulness and loss of memory
  • Feeling that you have lost your edge or passed your peak
  • Insomnia or poor sleep
  • Joint pain
  • Lacking desire (low libido) or pleasure in sex
  • Decreased ability to perform sexually
  • Erections that are less strong

None of these signs or symptoms are specific to testosterone deficiency and many are hard to differentiate from normal aging. Our role is to evaluate any signs or symptoms of low testosterone, and then to see how they correlate with your hormone levels.

Low Testosterone Therapy for men?

What is Testosterone
Testosterone is a hormone, a molecular messenger that travels through your bloodstream to act on many organs and tissues in your body, including your brain, muscles, fat, bones and sexual organs.

Testosterone and the brain
Your thinking abilities and general sense of well-being, including your mood, energy level and sense of vitality, and sexual drive or libido are all affected by testosterone.

Testosterone and muscle
Testosterone creates muscle cells and causes them to grow in size and strength.

Testosterone and fat
Testosterone has been shown to reduce body fat, particularly in the midsection and chest. The result is an improvement in lean body mass.

Testosterone and bones
Testosterone helps prevent the normal bone destruction of aging and actually improves bone density. This reduces the risk of osteoporosis and fractures.

Testosterone and the heart
Testosterone can influence cardiovascular risk factors indirectly through its effect on the amount of fat in your body, and there is evidence it benefits the heart directly. It may help open the coronary arteries, and possibly improve cardiac function in people with heart disease and heart failure.

Testosterone and sex
Low testosterone can reduce your ability to have satisfying sex. Lack of sex drive and erectile dysfunction are sexual problems that can result from low testosterone. If low testosterone is the cause, treating it can help.

Types Of Hormone Replacement Therapy

Patients suffering from conditions and symptoms of hormone imbalance, including menopause, andropause (also known as low testosterone in men), erectile dysfunction, vaginal dryness, pain with sex, difficulty sleeping, trouble losing weight, muscle aches, and moodiness can benefit from natural hormone replacement therapy. Bioidentical hormone therapy is available in a variety of delivery methods and are prescribed to meet the specific needs of each individual.
Types Of Hormone Replacement Therapy

Thyroid Hormone Therapy

Approximately 12 percent of the U.S. population suffers from thyroid dysfunction, yet 60 percent of Americans are undiagnosed. This is often due to the ambiguous nature of symptoms, which classically masquerade as symptoms of stress, aging, or even depression and anxiety. Untreated thyroid dysfunction can increase your risk of other diseases or worsen the impact of other conditions, such as diabetes or heart disease.

If you feel tired all the time, struggle with sleep, weight gain, depression, anxiety, or mood swings–it might be a hormone imbalance related to your thyroid. The thyroid influences nearly every cell in the body, making any dysfunction a significant issue.

The good news is that thyroid hormone imbalances can be treated; however, not just any treatment will do. Treatment must begin with accurate lab testing of all the hormones that play a role in thyroid function, such as: thyroid stimulating hormone (TSH), T3, and T4. Your practitioner should evaluate all of these hormones throughout the treatment process to adequately assess thyroid function and determine the progress of treatment.

Thyroid dysfunction can impact your overall health and contribute to uncomfortable symptoms. Restore Med Spa trains providers to expertly assess lab results, looking beyond obscure ranges of “normal” and seeking to achieve optimal health and function for each patient. If you are concerned about your thyroid health or are experiencing symptoms of hormone imbalance, it is time to find a provider near you.

Estrogen Hormone Therapy

As a woman ages, estrogen levels decline, with sharp decreases occurring near middle age. Low levels of estrogen have been shown to contribute to uncomfortable symptoms, such as hot flashes, night sweats, low libido, weight gain, mood swings, and more. Although the dramatic decline and affiliated symptoms are classically linked to perimenopause and menopause, low estrogen can occur before middle age.

Women experiencing symptoms of low estrogen should have their hormone levels evaluated by an expert who is trained to carefully analyze lab results and understands the delicate nature of hormonal imbalance. Though your lab results may show that your levels are within “normal” range, it may not be the definition of “normal” for you. Providers trained in hormone balance know that there is a distinct difference between “normal” and optimal.

Low levels of estrogen can impact your overall health and contribute to uncomfortable symptoms. Either condition can occur with menopause. Estrogen pellet therapy may be an effective solution to low estrogen and can help relieve symptoms of hormone imbalance. Pellet therapy is a bioidentical hormone therapy option that uses the highest-quality ingredients, proprietary formulation, and requires advanced-level training for all pellet-certified providers.

Testosterone Hormone Therapy

Many people believe that testosterone is the male hormone. However, both men and women make and need testosterone for optimal health. Testosterone plays a significant role in male and female sexual health, brain health, and weight management. As testosterone levels decline with age, you may experience a lack of focus, brain fog, low libido, an inability to build muscle, or weight gain.

Testosterone therapy helps patients identify and restore hormone levels to an optimal state to eliminate symptoms and enhance health and wellbeing. Testosterone therapy is also effective in supporting a reduced risk of cardiovascular disease, stroke and heart attack. Testosterone pellet therapy is renowned as the most effective form of testosterone therapy.

Method Of Hormone Replacement Therapy

Pellet Therapy

Pellet therapy is among the oldest forms of hormone therapy, dating back to the 1930s. With the many advancements in technology, pellet therapy is now considered the most effective delivery method of hormone therapy and the preferred option among patients and providers.

Pellet therapy is available for estradiol and testosterone hormone replacement. The hormone is compounded into a tiny pellet and inserted into the upper layer of skin, just above the buttocks. Aside from the convenience of never having to remember to take a pill, slather on cream, or put on a patch, this delivery method is the most optimal for a natural dosing structure and bioavailability. Pellet therapy mimics the slow, steady dosing that occurs naturally within the ovaries or testicles of the human body. Your medical provider will use your lab work, symptom assessment, lifestyle, and reaction to the therapy to achieve an optimal prescription. Pellet therapy is designed to meet the unique needs of the individual, so you get exactly what your body needs, when it needs it–much like nature intended.

What is Involved in Starting Bioidentical Hormone Therapy?

You will fill out a brief medical history and a symptoms questionnaire when you have your lab work done. If you live out of town, we can arrange for your labs to be drawn at a location near you.

As early as 4 days after your lab work, we can see you for your initial consultation. We will discuss your symptoms, history, lifestyle and goals, and also review the results from your blood work. From this, we will make recommendations for a course of treatment.

Follow Up Appointments

We require that you have follow up labs and an office visit 4 to 5 weeks after the initial treatment.

Pellets will be replaced on average every 4-5 months. This is to ensure that your hormone levels are at the correct level and to ensure that your treatment is optimal for you.

Any patients experiencing any discomfort or problems are strongly encouraged to contact us immediately. All of our patients are welcome to call our office at any time to answer any questions or concerns you may have.
